Engineer in Chief, Bangladesh Army

Major General Md Hasan Uz Zaman, ndu, afwc, psc, M Phil was born in the city of Narsingdi of Bangladesh on 01 January 1971. After his primary schooling, he studied in a cadet college for his secondary and higher secondary education.

            Major General Hasan was commissioned on 09 June 1992 with 26th BMA Long Course in the Corps of Engineers. Since commission, he has served in various staff, instructional and command appointments of different levels in addition to his several unit services. His important staff appointments include General Staff Officer Grade-II (Operations) in an Infantry Division, Staff Officer Grade-I in Works Directorate of Army Headquarters, Colonel Staff (Chief of Staff) of Military Institute of Science & Technology. He was an instructor in School of Military Engineering and Commandant of Border Guard Training Centre & College.

            In his Command appointments, the General has commanded an Engineer Battalion, an Engineer Contingent in UN Mission, a Composite Brigade and Border Security Bureau of Border Guard Bangladesh. He participated in the United Nations Mission in Angola (UNAVEM-III) in 1996-1997, United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) in 2006-2007, United Nations Operation in Ivory Coast (UNOCI) in   2012-2013. He also served as Chief Engineer of Bangabandhu Maritime University. He was the Defence Attache, Embassy of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh in Kuwait wef 2022-2024.

            Maj Gen Hasan attended a number of courses both at home and abroad. He achieved advanced diploma in Defense and Strategic Studies from International College of Defense Studies (China). He attended Comprehensive Crisis Management Course in Asia Pacific Centre for Security Studies (APCSS, USA). He is a graduate of Defense Services Command and Staff College, Mirpur (Bangladesh), National Defense College, Mirpur (Bangladesh), International College of Defense Studies, PLA (China) and Bangladesh University of Professionals (Bangladesh). He is a Civil Engineer and got his Bachelor degree from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology. He obtained his Master degrees from National Defense University (China), National University (Bangladesh) and Bangladesh University of Professionals (Bangladesh). The General has joined as Engineer in Chief, Bangladesh Armed forces on 09 Sep 2024.

            In his Personal life, he is married to Mrs Summyia Nazmeen, who is a doctor of Gynae and Obstectics. They are blessed with two daughters : Raina Tasnia Zaman and Zaima Warisha Zaman. The General enjoys golfing, angling and reading nobles as his hobby to spend leisure.
